Election 2002: The Race for Congress

Welcome to my admittedly very no-frills page dedicated to giving readers an outlook for the House and Senate races to be held on November 5, 2002. In this site, I rated each of the 435 House races and 34 Senate races that were contested this year. The most competitive races included my own personal analysis.

For the forth consecutive election, I have improved my percentage of correctly called races. Of the 33 Senate races which have been called, I correctly predicted 29, with the Louisiana runoff still pending. Of the 433 House races called, I correctly called 429, with Colorado-7 and Louisiana-5's runoff still pending. That is an overall percentage of 98.3% correct, up from 96.6% in 2000. I would also note that I made predictions for ALL races, and did not attempt to boost my percentage by designating races "toss ups" or "too close to call".

The information contained within comes from a wide variety of sources. Polls cited in my analysis are obviously not my own polls, but polls conducted by organizations and reported in the media. I take no responsibility for the inaccuracies on the part of media organizations, but I apologize for any incorrect information that I may include by my own error.

Although I rely on other sources in making my analysis, the opinions are entirely my own. This includes, but is not limited to, a candidate’s ability to campaign, fundraise, or legislate, the voting tendencies of a district or state, the likelihood of outside factors in influencing a particular contest, and the accuracy or suspicious nature of poll results. For example, my designation of a district as a “swing district” is based entirely on my own analysis of previous election results, although such a designation may be shared by other election analysts.
